Does Anybody Hear Me?

I wonder...

Has anyone ever really heard my voice?

Has anyone truly read and understood the words I've written?

Has my life made a difference in the smallest way?

When I draw my final breath and am removed from life, will pieces of my story remain in the annals of times?
Or given the time of my life and the way I spent it, will anyone even know that I existed?

I wonder... Oh Lord.

Have I truly heard your voice?

Have I truly read and understood the words you've written?

Have I allowed you touch my life, and touch others through me in the smallest way?

When I draw my last breath, when I reach for eternity, will it be said of me that I lived for you?
Or will anyone even know that you existed in me?

I wonder... Oh Lord what is the measure of a life?

That I sold a million copies of a book?

That I made a million dollars?

That I lived a million lifetimes in a million seconds?

That I touched a single life?

I wonder...
Lord, make me to know my end.
And what is the measure of my days.
That I may know how frail I am

Indeed, you have made days as handbreadths,
and my age is as nothing before you.
Certainly everyman is but a vapor.  Selah

Surely every man walks about like a shadow;
Surely they busy themselves in vain;
He heaps up riches,
and does not know who will gather them.

And now Lord, what do I wait for?
My hope is in you.  Psalm 39: 4-7

Tina, I think we all long for this--to touch lives. I think God gave us that need, to be part of something bigger than ourselves.

I totally agree. There is a God spaced hole in all of us so to speak, and hole in the world, perhaps that God wants to fill us with if we let him use us.

Somedays, if I'm honest, I question what I'm doing. I feel like God has me on hold. And I tend to get impatient. But I'm trying to pay attention and just trust. Not just in writing, although that's part of it, but life in general.

Thanks for coming by, Missy.

I love what you wrote I found this the other day. I have been studiing for a "Womens Conference" where much to my delight and anxiety I am one of the speakers. So as I have been researching for my speech/lesson I came upon this...it spoke quite profoundly to me! What legacy will I leave, what will people say of me...how will they see my walk with the Lord.
Anyway here goes...this by the way is not all of it, only part.This was spoken at Charles Sprugeon's funeral by his closet friend Arcibald Brown...
...Champion of God, thy battle long and nobly fought is over. The sword which clave to thy hand has dropped at last; the palm branches take it's place. No longer does the Helmet press thy brow, or weary with it's surging thoughts of battle;the victors wreath from the Great Commander's hand has already proved thy full reward. Here for a little while shall rest thy precious dust. Then shall thy Well-beloved come,and at His voice thou shalt spring from thy couch on earth fashioned like unto HIs body in glory. Then spirit , soul,and body shall magnify thy Lord's redemption. Until then, beloved, sleep. We praise God for thee, and by the blood of the everlasting covenent hope and expect to praise God with thee. Amen.
I cannot help but cry as I read this...our life lived now isnot really our legacy but His legacy.
