If Donuts Were Book Genres...

... which one would you pick?  The dark chocolate glaze filled with a rich mystery?  The vanilla frosting with a rainbow of cheery sprinkles? The powdered donut that sticks with you?

Raised, fried, cake, bar, round, holes, braided, knots, jelly filled, creme filled, chocolate, maple, cherry, blueberry...

There are as many donuts as ideas to make them. So many varieties to choose from.

I've considered my favorite donut at length. Well, this morning at least...

To be honest I didn't get the whole Krispy Kreme craze. Let's call it decadent, exotic romance genre. Living in western Colorado we didn't have a Krispy Kreme bakery for true believers to get their fix. So people traveled over the mountains and bought boxes of donuts to bring back to sell --  some 500 miles round trip.

Funny thing, a Krispy Kreme Bakery was built out by the mall. When it first opened there were lines of cars. Then the craze fizzled and died on the western slope. I believe the Krispy Kreme building houses a steakhouse now.

People's tastes change. In their donut choices, in the books they read, the clothes they wear and the cars they drive.

But then, some people find something they like and stick with it for ions. While that might seem like a rut... sometimes the tried and true is the perfect choice.

Why do certain romance stories written with the same boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl can't stand boy, but boy wins her over formula continue to sell.

Yes, people will try the new exotic read, but a good suspense or mystery or Sci-fi will always bring a reader back...

so back to my donut theory, before you say it's full of holes... :-) With Krispy Kreme's demise on the western slope, people didn't stop eating donuts. No they went back to their old haunts and picked their favorites by the baker's dozen to enjoy with the new fufu coffee craze. (which is a whole nuther story)

I can honestly say my favorite donut has been the same for several years. I suppose my favorite donut would be the like the tried and true women's fiction with a touch of romance genre. Don't get me wrong, if forced to... I will choke down a fried glazed donut, or a lemon filled blintz. I might even try something flirty with rose petals or crushed candy bits, yes they are out there.

Although honestly, I'm not to keen on the fruit flavored donuts. I give those to my grandkids...

My all time favorite donut would have to be the lowly cake donut, no glaze, (well maybe sometimes, especially if it's maple) no fan fair, just a little donut, with a hole and a sweet buttery flavor.

I'm sure your's is different. Do tell?
